TIPS: The Groom

The groom usually rents his formal wear.  He can choose from traditional to contemporary designer tuxedos.  A quick search on Google images for “wedding tuxedos” will return over 350,000 results.  Browse through them and print them out if you would like a specific one, then bring it to your local shop to see if they have it in stock or can get it for you.  Make sure his attire complements yours.

The contemporary groom may wear a popular designer tuxedo with a shirt to match the bridal party’s color.  He may wear an old-fashioned tuxedo too.  You may both wear white to make both stand out together.  The groom should be comfortable with whatever attire you select.

Order his attire two to three months ahead of time, although some places do have last-minute fittings.  The shirt collar should hug the neck and the cuff sleeves should extend one-half to one inch past his jacket sleeve.  His trousers should touch his shoe tops.  Socks and shoes should blend in with the rest of his attire.

The best man and ushers

The best man and ushers’ attire should be similar in style and color to the groom’s.   Select the usher’s attire after you have selected the grooms and bridesmaids’.  Traditionally the ushers wear the same tuxedos as the groom with the groom wearing something lightly different so that he stands out.  Some ushers wear the same color shirt or cummerbund as the bridesmaids’ dresses.  Select a style that complements the bride, groom and attendants.

The ushers are responsible for paying for all their attire.  The complete attire down to the shoes can be rented at the same store.
