Destination Brides: Choosing the man or woman to perform the ceremonial duties for your wedding will most likely be a very personal decision based on faith, religious denomination and or availability.  Try to get a feel for their personality if at all possible.

Many clergy members depend on this honorarium as a necessary supplement to their comparatively small incomes.  In some religions, it is not appropriate to pay the officiant.  They may request that you donate  the fees to the church in the officiant’s name.  It’s best to be direct and ask the officiant how he or she would like to handle the honorarium.  Ask how the check should be written.

The best man is responsible for giving the officiant the fees after the ceremony.
