Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel hits record number in nuptials marathon

The world’s most unique wedding venue – Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel, brought together an astonishing 210 couples last weekend, to celebrate last Friday’s date of 11/11/11. The chapel set their own all-time record for back-to-back weddings, commitment ceremonies and vow renewals.

There were approximately 3,000 guests joining the marrying couples who visited Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel for this momentous occasion.

Couples approached the venue keen to marry on this memorable date, which only happens every 100 years. It is a perfect (same-numbered) palindrome, reading the same backwards as forwards.

Fifty couples from the UK participated in the mass marriage marathon in Downtown Las Vegas, joining lovebirds from the USA, Australia and many other countries abroad.

Happy couples chose from a number of different themes in separate, private chapels, with ceremonies being carried out by characters such as Elvis, Dr Spock, James Bond, Michael Jackson, Merlin the Magician, the Bluez Brothers, Liberace and the Phantom of the Opera. The chapel also hosted a number of gothic-themed nuptials.

Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel offers a mix of fun and traditional services, for weddings, same-sex commitment ceremonies, and vow renewals. Personal touches such as a champagne toast and the couples’ names in lights outside, plus personalised music and vows, are also available.

Chapel founder Ron Decar states: “It was an honour to be a part of so many couples’ special day, creating one-of-a-kind memories on this symbolic date in history. Although, we have never before experienced this number of back-to-back ceremonies, every couple was delighted with their own personal experience.

“Each ceremony received the care and personal attention we pride ourselves in offering here at Viva Las Vegas Weddings, and we were pleased along with our guests, with these tremendous celebrations,” says Decar.

The day marked a wider recent trend, of more Brits choosing to marry abroad. A recent Mintel survey showed that four out of five British couples now choose the US for their wedding. According to Mintel, the average overseas wedding costs around $2,000 in total compared with the average $8,000 it costs to get married here in the UK.
